I am working on a project right now that I am super passionate about. Have you ever been involved in something that when you worked on it you lost track of time, experienced joy, felt so productive and just smiled while you were doing it? That’s exactly how I feel. It’s what Steven Pressfield calls the “Opposite of Resistance.” Things are just going your way and you feel as if the universe has heard your questions, even pleading and has answered you with a big ‘YES!’

Except…

When I get to a point when I lose focus and get distracted. Or you got scared that it was “too much” or “too out there.” It’s almost like my brain is giving me a signal to stop and regroup. It’s like I break out of a trance and all of a sudden think: what’s in my inbox? Did anyone post something on Facebook? Do I have a response that needs attention? What time is it? Do I need to get the kids from school?

Have you ever been there? Have you ever felt you have lost your way? So, how do you get it back? How do you overcome what seems like an insurmountable challenge of getting your drive back?

Well, for better or for worse, it’s not an easy answer – you have to work to get it back. But here’s the good news…

If it is something you are passionate about and something where you are contributing value to others, chances are it will come back. And faster than you think. Because as Steven Pressfield says,

The opposite of resistance is assistance.

Remember when I mentioned at the beginning when you are working on a project or initiative and it just flows through you? You feel electrified, energized and excited. Things just happen and ideas seems to come to you that inherently make sense but you have no idea where they came from. Well, that doesn’t just go away or disappear. But like anything else, you need to give it some attention or…it will go away.

  • We need to assist our ideas.
  • We need to continue to give life to them.
  • Too often, we don’t act when we have the desire to because we may think that the timing isn’t exactly perfect or the idea is a bit strange.
  • And sometimes an idea comes to us that, while it makes sense, seems too out of reach.

When you are that passionate about something; when you feel totally energized by that effort or initiative, then beat your internal fight!

Be the opposite of resistance!
