The ocean feels like my home and the way it soothes my mind and spirit is like nothing else. The constant roar of the waves, the feel and texture of the sand – it’s where I feel I am meant to be.

I am fortunate to be on a 4-day vacation with my family on Amelia’s Island (Florida) and it’s so amazing. I’m actually writing this on the deck of our room overlooking the ocean right now. The ocean is such a wonderous place and in my next life (or maybe later in this one) I will live on the ocean.

But what came to mind this morning as I was running on the beach was the fact that even though we arrived yesterday my mind is still not quiet. My mind is still racing with thoughts of people I want/need to reach out to, things I need to do for my upcoming 5-day challenge (it will be awesome so click here to sign up!), updating my editorial calendar, finishing the chapter of my book, Podcast interviews, etc. The list goes on and on and on…

Yet, here’s the amazing part…Once I realized that my mind wasn’t quiet, it took a pause. I told myself (yes, I may have said it out loud but no one was near me) to let each thought roll out with the waves. And honestly, it was as if the waves rolling in pushed out my racing thoughts and brought some peace and quiet. I focused on the sound of the waves, I was watching the waves – and it brought such a level of comfort.

And you know what, I had some great ideas and thoughts once I gave my mind a break. By quieting my mind, I was able to insight and ignite my spirit. Now for those of you who know me, it’s not like I lack spirit but in this case, I mean spirit in my meaning and purpose. A peaceful, not necessarily jazzed up level of spirit. A calming, soothing realization that while I have a long way to go, I am traveling the right path and my mission is to help others do the same.

So, while I did not share a Reflective Friday video yesterday (I was traveling and trying to be on vacation), here is my challenge to you:

  • How do you quiet your mind?
  • If you don’t quiet your mind now, what might work for you?

Take a few minutes to think about and write this down. Because even though I know I am currently not near the ocean every day, I will think about ways to bring the soothing and peacefulness to my days.

What can you do to quiet your mind and insight your spirit?
