Resistance…

Steven Pressfield, in his book, The War of Art, defines resistance as:

  • the most toxic force on the planet
  • by definition is self-sabotage
  • Fear

You think Resistance isn’t real? Resistance will bury you. (The Unlived Life section)

Many of you encounter Resistance but may not know what it is. It’s when we can choose the easier path, the one with less work, the one you may have to compromise…but just a little bit. I am guilty of it, too – you are not alone.

This week has been an especially hard week Resistance wise. Just when I think something is coming together, another shoe drops…or the link won’t work…or the project falls through…

Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it. (page 12)

Years ago, I used to take all of those things as a sign that it “wasn’t meant to be” and I should just do something else. But today – no way! I recognize it for what it is…Resistance. And when this comes up – and as strongly as it has recently – I take that as a sign that while it will be a harder road traveled, it is the one I have to, need to take.

And what’s really great is some friends this week have had their own Resistance – and we have celebrated it. While it sounds strange, it is something to celebrate. It means you are on the right track…you need to keep going!

So, the next time Resistance rears it’s ugly head to you, do NOT:

  • Give in
  • Lose hope
  • Lose steam
  • Go a different direction

Instead, you should:

  • Celebrate it!
  • Embrace your self-identity and self-worth
  • Be strong and find your strength from within
  • Keep going

No one has ever said the road worth traveling is easy…but it’s a whole heck of a lot more rewarding!
