Yesterday was Family Day at my sons’ camp. It was such an amazing day – to see what my sons have learned, new friends they have made – kids and counselors alike, and how they have grown.
Watch my FB live video HERE.
As I share in the video, while the boys didn’t mind going to this camp, let’s just say it wasn’t on their priority list. Because as many of you know, they are athletic, love sports, etc. And this camp was different. They signed up for classes like Robotics, woodworking, build, build, build among others. It was a challenge for them!
It has been so fun and inspiring to watch them grow over the last three weeks. They build stools, birdhouses, a candy ball or pistachio dispenser, robots, planes, etc. And they had FUN doing it 🙂 Every afternoon they were excited to share what they learned and did. Sure, they still had recess, played games, etc. But it was a great shift for them to have fun and learn something at the same time.
And because of that, there are some lessons I have taken away from Summer camp:
- Never be afraid to challenge yourself because you may just be surprised at what you see
- It doesn’t always work the first time, or the second but if you persist, the end result is pretty cool
- Get out of your comfort zone. Staying safe, while it seems easy and fun is nothing like the challenge zone.
- Be vulnerable. Ask for help.
There are other lessons, too but these are bigger ones my boys have taught me in the last 3 weeks.
So, you know I like to ask questions and even pose an occasional challenge….
Are you challenging yourself?
Are you stepping out of your comfort zone?
Are you vulnerable and willing to ask for help?
I’m not saying any of this is easy…but then again, the things really worth having in life are never easy, are they?
